Microsoft Doesn’t Want Kinect To Be The Home Of “Shovelware”

by Ernice Gilbert on June 28th, 2010, under Kinect, News

The Nintendo Wii has great games on there doesn’t it? Yes it does! A plethora of great titles are yours to enjoy if you own the console. But there’s something else that’s been hurting Nintendo’s Wii really hard: shovelware.

For every good game on the system, 10 more nonsensical ones can be found; and according to Albert Penello, director of platform marketing for Xbox, Microsoft doesn’t want kinect to suffer with the same disease.

by Ernice Gilbert on June 26th, 2010, under Activision, News, Nintendo

When news broke that Activision, the publisher who owns the Golden Eye IP would release the next generation installment on the Wii platform as an exclusive title, some industry analysts were frustrated with the decision. Most notable of them being Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst, Michael Pachter, who said the Xbox 360 was the console best suited for the game.

Activsion sees it differently, though, with the company’s Brian Pass acknowledging the Wii as a formidable platform, one which represents a “huge opportunity” for the publishing giant.

Excerpt and video’s past the jump.

These 10 Game Announcements Would Make This E3 The Best Ever

by Ernice Gilbert on May 18th, 2010, under Articles, E3

There are games, and then there are GAMES. You know what I’m talking about. Some titles are hyped, released and then fade with the wind. Others come silently, (just like Red Dead Redemption) and suddenly explodes, leaving an everlasting impact on the gaming industry.

At this year’s E3, we know there will be the usual: Games we already know about will be announced, companies will talk up their potential, projections and “big ideas”. They’ll hire celebrities to make the offerings look fatter, and at the end of the day we’re left with a few semi-huge announcements but nothing that will leave us chanting, ‘wow, this was the best Expo ever!’

Gamers know better than publishers when it comes to what games should be created. But for some unknown reason the publishers just won’t listen. Take for instance Final Fantasy VII. How long has it been since we’ve been yelling our lungs off at Square-Enix for a remake of that game? For ages, countless years, but we haven’t seen or heard anything that would give us hope.

I’m sure if they would remake Final Fantasy VII, it would be the best selling installment in the franchise. Also, where’s my Syphon Filter? What happened to Onimusha? Where the hec is a true Donkey Kong Country and a bonafide Streets of Rage?

Publishers listen: If you want to wow us at this year’s E3, announce these ten Games:

Pachter: “PS3 More Powerful Than 90 Percent Of PCs”

PC gamers have held the thought that their gaming platform of choice is the most powerful of the bunch and consoles will always be second standard. Is that true? Well according to Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst, Michael Pachter, the percentage of PCs more powerful than a PS3 is but a tiny number.

For The First Time In 3 years, Xbox 360 Is Number 1

by Ernice Gilbert on March 11th, 2010, under NPD

February wasn’t the best of months for the industry in terms of software and hardware sales. PS3 did experience a 30 percent increase in sales over last year, but the industry on a whole realized another month of decreased sales compared to 2009. However in the midst of it all, the Xbox 360 manages, time and time again to defy the odds.

For Nintendo, Wii 2′s A Long Way Off

by Ernice Gilbert on March 10th, 2010, under Nintendo

Just in case your hopes were still high for a Wii 2 showing in the near future, Nintendo’s Fils-Aime wants you to forget about the idea altogether because they’re just “not there yet”.

For Will Wright, Nintendo Wii’s A Toy, Not A Video Games Console

by Ernice Gilbert on March 10th, 2010, under industry news, Nintendo

You know Will Wright right? He’s the guy behind The Sims, he knows casual games better than anyone else in the business.

Nintendo however has grabbed the aforementioned market by force, hauling in everyone from ages 5 – 100. So if you thought you were the daddy of casual games and suddenly this company starts pulling in millions, leaving almost no share for others to bite, wouldn’t you take notice? Wright did exactly that.

Analysts: PS3 Will Be Only Platform To Realize Increase In Feb. NPD

by Ernice Gilbert on March 8th, 2010, under NPD

Is it because God of War III is on the horizon and gamers young and old are buying the systems in droves in preparation for chaos? I Have no clue but whatever it is, if analysts Pachter and EEDAR’s prediction holds true, Sony will be a very pleased company.
