Analysts: PS3 Will Be Only Platform To Realize Increase In Feb. NPD

by Ernice Gilbert on March 8th, 2010, under NPD

Is it because God of War III is on the horizon and gamers young and old are buying the systems in droves in preparation for chaos? I Have no clue but whatever it is, if analysts Pachter and EEDAR’s prediction holds true, Sony will be a very pleased company.

According to the analysts, the only hardware to see sales increase in February in the US was PS3, with all other consoles sliding back year-on-year.

Here’s the quencher via Edge:

Wedbush / EEDAR February hardware sales estimates (change year-on-year):

Wii – 455,000 (-40%) / 425,000 (-44%)
DS – 425,000 (-28%) / 401,000 (-32%)
PS3 – 300,000 (+9%) / 280,000 (+1%)
Xbox 360 – 350,000 (-10%) / 335,000 (-14%)
PSP – 95,000 (-52%) / 90,000 (-55%)
PS2 – 45,000 (-66%) / 50,000 (-62%)
Total – 1,670,000 (-29%) / 1,581,000 (-32%)

Software sales decreased 11 times in the past year, and will see yet another decline in February, however Pachter says said month is the “last cloud on the horizon”.

Pachter also expects “industry sales to improve significantly starting in March, with a rebound to positive territory as high-profile games begin to be released on a more consistent basis (top March games are Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Final Fantasy XIII, Pokémon, and God of War III).”

Thursday is when NPD releases its February hardware and software sales results.
