Sony first-party titles will cost $59.99, the gargantuan company confirmed to Shacknews today. Microsoft had previously confirmed that first-party Xbox One game prices wouldn’t go up.

“We have announced the pricing for our first party line up of PS4 launch and launch window games,” a Sony rep told the site.

“All four titles, Killzone: Shadow Fall, Driveclub, Knack, and InFamous Second Son are all $59.99.”

Third-party publishers have yet to confirm what will be the standard price of their next-gen titles, however with amazon already taking preorders for PS4 and Xbox One third-party games, and prices of said games staying at the $59.99 price tag, we suspect these publishers will fall in line with Sony and Microsoft’s model.

This post has been sponsored by Microsoft: The Windows Phone Nokia Lumia 928 by Microsoft is beautiful anytime of the day, but the smartphone really shines at night. Check out the trailer below.

The Lumia 928 comes with a 4.5-inch AMOLED PureMotion HD+ ClearBlack display with Corning Gorilla Glass 2 and a 8.7 MP PureView 1080p camera with Carl Zeiss optics and Optical Image Stabilization with Xenon flash. The phone features Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 and dual-core 1.5 Ghz processor. It has wireless charging and 13 hours maximum talk time. It comes with 1280 x 768 display resolution and 2,000 mAh with 1GB of RAM, 332 ppi and 32GB memory.

Though closely related to AT&T’s Lumia 920, Nokia has done an admirable job of differentiating the 928’s hardware, for better or worse. It’s safe, even staid. To some degree, it feels out of lockstep with Nokia’s famed (and relatively consistent) industrial design. Then again, Espoo has been experimenting lately: Take the Lumia 620, for instance, which features a double-shot plastic case — two colors layered on top of one another — or the aluminum Lumia 925. In other words, it looks like lead designer Marko Ahtissari is keen to move beyond the classic rounded plastic shell first seen on the N9, and the 928 certainly shows it.

The phone’s now available at Verizon Wireless.

There is a large overlap between computer games and movies, and while
many movies have been influenced by computer games, many computer games
have been influenced by movies. In fact some movies are really
extensions of computer games, while some games have been derived more or
less entirely from the movies that preceded them.

Looking back into the very first computer games before there were even
personal computers, games were played on what were called mainframe
computers. These were very expensive and for their time very powerful
computers that were connected to dumb terminals. One of the very first
computer games that were played on these was Star Trek; it was a text
based game and really had very little in common with the original TV
series, but it does lay down the foundations of computer game and film
hybrids.

The movie franchise The Matrix portrays an image of our planet overrun
by sentient machines which obtain their power from the bodies of human
beings grown in pods. The minds of the people are maintained in a
virtual world called the Matrix and some people are able to tap into the
Matrix and gain superhuman powers. It took very little time for the
first Matrix computer game to be released. This wasn’t just based on the
film, it included also around an hour of original video with the same
cast as appeared in the films; over 5 million copies of the game were sold.

Many movies have been influenced by gambling games; for instance the
movie 21 was based on the game of blackjack and card counting. That in
turn encouraged many people to try a little card counting for
themselves, which is an example of how movies that are influenced by
games can go on to influence how games are played. Unfortunately some
people thought that card counting techniques could be used in online
casino games, for instance Lucky Nugget blackjack;
they soon discovered that it didn’t work.

The worlds of films and games are intertwined, and they are likely to
become more so; perhaps in the future it will be difficult to
differentiate between the different media.

But Capcom has poured cold water on the hasty talk today, reiterating that Deep Down is a completely new IP.

Capcom USA senior vice president Christian Svensson responded to the talk happening in a thread on the Capcom Unity forums. Here’s his response:

No new DD product has been announced so there’s nothing I can comment on there. For reference DR3 and Deep Down have nothing to do with Dragon’s Dogma.

The “DR3″ portion of his response pertains to Dead Rising 3, of course, revealed recently at Microsoft’s Xbox One E3 press conference.

Sony’s chosen a different path than Microsoft when it comes to used games. One company’s console allows gamers to do whatever they so please with games they own, the other company has placed strict rules that some claim infringes on consumers rights. PS4 is the console of freedom, it seems, while Xbox One is the machine of restrictions.

But Sony says it has a clear and simple reason for allowing used games on PS4, and it’s because such a policy creates value for gamers.

That’s according to SCEA CEO Jack Tretton, who told Bloomberg that “PS4 was built to attract consumers”.

It’s one of the main reasons the console isn’t required to be always-online, Tretton adds, and because Sony “is most concerned about the consumer”.

We’re most concerned about the consumer. And we really appeal to consumers on a worldwide basis. And I think in the United States, we realize there’s a high degree of broadband adoption, but we’re in a lot of countries where people don’t have the ability to connect on a daily basis and we want to appeal to consumers worldwide.

The other thing as it relates to the ownership of the game, if people pay a lot of money for that, they equate the value with the flexibility they have in that. To do with it as they choose,to give it to their friends, sell it to their friends, trade it in to another retailer; that creates value in the initial purchase that they make.

Tretton also reiterated that it was always Sony’s intention to hit an attractive price point for PS4.

Thanks, Gamespot.

Reports on twitter are claiming that GameStop is no longer taking preorders for Xbox One, giving credence to a recent rumor that claimed employees of the ubiquitous games retailer were highlighting PS4 instead of Xbox One, as the latter console’s used games policy threatens the very foundation of its business.

The whispers have been everywhere, some even claiming that the Xbox One not being available at GameStop has nothing to do with its DRM policies, but rather Xbox One’s ESRAM yield problems. In essence, development of the console may have been stymied because of internal problems, forcing Microsoft to minimize the amount of consoles it can produce during the holiday season.

Here are some tweets:

Went to my local @GameStop and you can’t pre order an #XBoxOne anymore, it has been pulled from their system. Interesting

— Shane Bell (@UF_Shane) June 18, 2013

Another guy chimed in to confirm Shane’s tweet:

@UF_Shane @GameStop I can confirm this, Xbox One is not on the system. I have heard its to do with the consoles ESRAM yield problems.

— Levi Bates (@levibates12345) June 18, 2013

So which is it, then. Is Microsoft struggling to produce enough Xbox Ones for the holiday season, or is the firm now at war with GameStop over its used games policy?
We’ll know for sure soon enough.

Automatic Updates will become standard for all PSN users on PS4, Netflix, other apps and social features not hidden behind paywall.

SCEE UK & Ireland MD Fergal Gara shared the details with Videogamer:

Catch-up TV and online movie services will continue to be free to all PS4 users, although an additional fee may be required to access back-catalogue PS3 titles once the Gaikai streaming service is introduced next year.

A PlayStation Plus account will also be required to access PS4′s online multiplayer functionality – something Sony says will allow it to “invest significantly” in PlayStation Network to help lower downtimes and improve its performance.

“It is time to charge, but it is time to charge and still continue to deliver phenomenal value.”

“A PlayStation Plus subscriber for PlayStation 4 comes away with a hell of a lot. First of all, the subscription applies across all three platforms [PS4, PS3 & PS Vita], so if you have the three platforms then you have an instant game collection on all three. So that’s hugely powerful in its own right. But it is true to say that the online multiplayer element for PS4, you do require the subscription in order to [make use] of that.

“If you choose not to subscribe we are still gating relatively little in many senses, so access to online catch-up TV and online movie services sit outside of the gate, for example. The social features of PS4 and PS4 games sit out of the subscription service… things like auto-updates on PS4 sit outside of PlayStation Plus, so we’re trying to be as balanced and as fair as we possibly can. If you choose to pay the subscription, yes, you get one important element of modern-day gameplay, but you also get fantastic value in games, including the PlayStation Plus edition of DriveClub.

Auto-update functionality had previously only been available to PS Plus subscribers on PS3, and though it isn’t yet clear what Gara means by PS4′s “social features”, it’s possible he could be referring to the console’s broadcasting and video upload features.

The service seems relatively more open than Microsoft’s Xbox LIVE service, too, which blocks users from accessing services like Netflix and 4OD unless they’re an Xbox LIVE Gold subscriber.

Whether PlayStation Plus users will be required to pay an additional fee for access to PS3 title streaming through Gaikai, however, is still undecided.

“In short, we haven’t decided,” said Gara when asked whether the firm plans to introduce additional PlayStation Plus tiers to accommodate backwards-compatibility streaming. “The Gaikai developments are exciting. The Remote Play feature which we’re particularly excited about not just benefits PS4 but PS Vita – that uses some Gaikai technology.

“But secondly, the full cloud gaming service comes a bit later – we announced that 2014 will start to see that introduced for PS3 titles in the US, and we’ll start to see a gradual increase in consoles, titles, devices and countries involved as we go forward, so there is a plan there to bring the PlayStation experience to more devices out of the cloud using the Gaikai that will broaden over time.

“Will that be part of PlayStation Plus? I genuinely don’t know. Will that require some other, different charging mechanism? Perhaps. We just haven’t sat down to answer that question yet.”

When asked by NowGamer what kind of special features we can expect for PS4 and Xbox One from Destiny, Bungie president Harold Ryan said:

We’re not committing right now to any specific platform features. The great thing for us with timing is that we were making a new engine, and then two new consoles were coming out, which led us to invest more into making the new engine for it.

There are a whole bunch of great opportunities for us to go after, like full player experiences, etc. We’re investigating all of those and building the core experience of Destiny, which will be similar across all the platforms. The graphics are different, obviously, platform to platform, but in a connected world, the game of Destiny is going to be awesome on all of them.

That’s what he said in an interview with Japanese site Game Watch, adding that the power difference between PS4 and Xbox One is “small”.

The PS4 is cheaper than I thought.

The difference is small, and I don’t really need to worry about it. When you come right down to it, the PS4 is cheap (laughs). Though, I wonder about the inclusion of the camera…

When asked about PSEye and Kinect’s importance to the future of gaming, he said:

Considering that the camera is so widespread in smartphones and tablets, I think it’ll build up to be the norm.

According to EA Sports executive vice president Andrew Wilson, PC gamers will not get the next-gen version of FIFA 14 because most of them have PCs with specs below the Ignite Engine’s requirements.

“Even though there were some PCs on the marketplace that could run that engine, the lion’s share of PCs on the marketplace could not. And the majority of the gamer base that was playing the game on PC did not have a PC spec that would work with that,” Wilson told Polygon while speaking about the move to the Xbox 360/PS3 game engine for the PC version of FIFA 14.

But that’s not to say future FIFA games won’t come to PC.

So could I see the potential for EA Sports Ignite to make it to PC in the future? Yes, I think it’s possible, but a couple of things need to happen.

First however, FIFA player’s PC needs to become more powerful – likely to be helped by advancements in on-board GPUs found in latest generation CPUs.

Lastly, Wilson said “there needs to be some adjustment in terms of how EA Sports Ignite works to facilitate the open nature of PC architecture, rather than the closed nature of console architecture”.
