Standalone Version of DayZ Announced

preview

Dean ‘Rocket’ Hall, DayZ’s creator, recently announced that a standalone version of immensely popular mod DayZ is currently under development at Bohemia Interactive.

In regards to the announcement and future of the DayZ mod for ArmA II, Hall, wrote

That’s right, this is actually happening – DayZ will be developed as a standalone game, with me as project lead, by Bohemia Interactive. This is the fairy-tale outcome for a mod that many would have said impossible four months ago. Development and updates of the mod will continue in parallel with the development of the game, so anyone who is playing the mod now will be able to continue to do so. The project will follow the Minecraft development model; fast iterations with the community alpha available for a heavily discounted price. I realize people will have many, many questions – but we wanted to let everyone know the announcement now. Over the coming weeks, these questions will be answered. The game will have it’s own site, www.dayzgame.com and the mod will continue at it’s present link.”

This announcement of course led to a bombardment of questions for Hall, in response, he recommends people to watch the standalone game’s website, promising answers will come. Thoughts on article? Comment below!

    …But what’s up with “The War Z”?
Does this mean that both these games will come out around the same time, but play exactly the same?
I wanted to buy The War Z, but if Hall makes his own game, I’ll sure go with DayZ, as THIS is the real deal.

@Wolf Both the standalone version of DayZ and the War Z are being released around the end of this year. While they have their similarities they also have a few differences as discussed in my article on the War Z. Keep in mind though that the exact differences between the mod and standalone version of DayZ have’t been revealed yet too.

Either way you should try out both, I mean you said you signed up for The War Z beta right?
