You remember the barrage of negative comments Capcom was fielding when it unveiled the Devil May Cry reboot at last year’s TGS, and now in a rather candid moment, a company representative said the reboot would be “one of the greatest Devil May Cry titles ever created.” And that the publisher was surprised at all the negativity the game got, and wondered why fans wasn’t giving it a chance.

What do you do when a popular franchise, one that’s made you millions, is apparently losing its appeal? Do something so drastic that longtime fans and newcomers alike will take notice.

That’s exactly what Capcom wanted to capture with the Devil May Cry reboot being helmed by Ninja Theory.

Can Ninja Theory Do For Devil May Cry What Christopher Nolan Did For Batman?

by Ernice Gilbert on September 27th, 2010, under Capcom, Hot, News, Ninja Theory

I’ve been a huge Batman fan since I could remember my name, umpteen years, and have seen the franchise shoot straight to the top and spiral down to the ground like an ailing, depressed bird. The latter was the case when it was revealed that Christopher Nolan would be directing what was then the latest Batman film: Batman Returns, and like any true fan who wants only the best for the franchise, I was concerned.

Would he be able to send that ailing bird shooting into the sky again, or would my beloved franchise kick the bucket? We all know now how that went, and Batman once again rules the box office. From Batman: Returns, to the stunning epic that’s Batman: The Dark Knight, the franchise has seen a healthy rebirth, one that’s cultivated new fans, and kept long time die hards hooked.

Here’s the million dollar question: Can Ninja Theory do the same for the fading Devil May Cry franchise?

Ah, the new Devil May Cry reboot. What can we say? It’s be cussed at and cursed to hell from whence it came by fans the world over. Virtually no one likes the new Dante’; to them, it’s the worst makeover in the history of makeovers.

But Ninja Thoery and Capcom do not see it that way, in fact, they feel the New Dante’s like James Bond In Casino Royale.

Dante Needed A New Look, He Wasn’t “Cool” Anymore Says Ninja Theory

by Ernice Gilbert on September 22nd, 2010, under Capcom, Hot, News, Ninja Theory

Hands up if you love what Ninja Theory’s done to Devil May Cry’s main protagonist, Dante’?

Not one?

Capcom, we have a problem here. It seems as if the entire Devil May Cry fanbase disapproves of the “new” Dante, with some calling for boycotts, and others charging Ninja Theory to do a Sucker Punch makeover. So, will the developer listen? Probably not, because now, according to them, “it’s all about cool”.
