According to a Federal Communications Commission filing, Sony’s getting ready to introduce a new PS3 to the market.
The model numbers are CECH-4000A and CECH-4000B; the current model number is CECH-3000. This means the new model with hail in the 4000 series.
The FCC label position on the CECH-4000 PS3 is different, and While the filing does not specifically mention dimensions, talk on Eurogamer last month hinted there was a thinner PS3 incoming. In fact Sony’s own Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida said “never say never” concerning a slimmer PS3. This seems to be it, I suspect.
Sony’s prided itself in releasing slimmer versions of its PlayStation consoles at the end of a lifecycle, and while we’ve seen a PS3 slim, a thinner version is definitely not far-fetched.
Thanks, Kotaku.
