When it comes to revisions of existing hardware, Sony’s front and center. The firm’s well-known for revising its consoles not once, twice, but three times during their time on the market. We’ve seen PS3 phat, one slim, will we see another slimmer, lighter PS3? “Never say never,” is Sony’s response.
“We haven’t announced anything new on PS3 in terms of hardware revisions. We should never say never – hardware guys are always looking at ways to make things cheaper, smaller,” Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida told Eurogamer at E3.
Good answer, but will Sony actually do it?
“I don’t know if we are going to talk about anything like that. We are quite happy with the PS3.”
When asked if we would see a PS MOVE hardware upgrade, the exec’s answer was equality elusive:
“It’s very difficult to answer your questions,” Yoshida replied. “We are not talking about any hardware revisions. We are very happy with what we have with PS3, PS Move. If anything, we haven’t been able to really fully make use of the potential of PS Move. We are still finding new ways to use PS Move on PS3, and we continue to search for applications.”
We’ll have to wait and see, then. But I’m sure it won’t be long before the rumors start piling onto gaming’s web.
