Gears 3 And Bulletstorm Will Be “Proof” Consoles Are Not Maxed Out Says Dev

Who said consoles are maxed out? You said that? Okay, just give Epic Games and People Can Fly a few more months and watch their respective games blow that notion out of the water. Because according to People Can Fly founder Adrian Chmielarz, Gears of War 3 and Bulletstorm will be “proof” that there’s yet juice in the PS3 and Xbox 360 to be squeezed out.

When asked by NowGamer recently whether the current generation of consoles had already hit a ceiling, or is there more to come, he replied:

“There’s a lot more to come,” he said. “I don’t want to sound like a peddler, but hopefully both Bulletstorm and Gears 3 are going be a proof of that.”

EA Partners boss, David DeMartini said recently Bulletstorm could have “Gears-like sales”, adding “It’s (a) new IP, so let’s hang that around its shoulders if you will. But it’s a great game.”

As for Epic Games, the studio’s gone completely mum on Gears 3 for now, but rest assured more details will come as the game’s release date draws nigh. The latest screens released are extremely beautiful, however. In fact if they could speak, their utterance would simply be: “buy me“.

Bulletstorm comes available on February 22nd for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360, with Gears of War 3 seeing a release on April 5th on the Xbox 360.

Uncharted 2 is proof, along with other games. The consoles will not be maxed out until the end of this cycle. Look at God of War 2 on the ps2. It looked amazing.

I’d expect nothing less form Epic Games, especially with Gears 3. These guys have constantly been pushing the barrier on Xbox 360.

As for People Can Fly’s new title, Bullestorm, I”m hopeful, but can’t say yet.

@ RedBull: Yeah, I agree, God of War 2 looks better than some “next-gen” titles.

Yeah, I wish they would push the barrier of the ps3.

@RedBullGT33: Good point, bro. Also, SoleSurvivor makes sense, too. I’m also really excited about Bulletstorm.

@ Ghost250: haha, yeah they are…Naughty Dog’s Amy Hennig said once they were maxing out the PS3. Later, one of the studio’s co-founders said they could still get more juice from it.

I just think it is funny how developers who only work on consoles and build engines for consoles say that the consoles are not maxed out, but the developers who just make games using other engines and do not make many console games says it is maxed out. So, who do I believe? Hmmmmm. I think I will go with the people who make the engines.

  9. Ernice Gilbert September 29, 2010 at 3:00 pm -

Those who make the engines for consoles? Yes. Because they’re better versed on said platform.

it is all about learning from the games you have made and retooling the engine to get more out of it. Same thing with race cars. You are constantly changing things on the car just to get that extra thousandth of a second out of it.

Good point, the race car one.
