The talk’s been wavering quite a bit concerning PS3′s longevity and the impending debut of PS4, so PlayStation U.S. boss Jack Tretton has tried yet again to put such grapevine ramblings to rest, making known to Forbes that Sony will be dedicated to PS Vita in the near future, and that PS3 is still current. In fact it’s the most current console available.
If you’re one of the many who believe Sony doesn’t want customers to modify the PlayStation 3, you’re not alone. It’s the message everyone’s gotten from the whole George Hotz debacle, but according to Jack Tretton, president and chief executive of Sony Computer Entertainment America, it’s a real “misnomer”. In other words it’s untrue, because, according to him, Sony embraces hacking; just in a different way.
Although no NGP release dates have been announced, the general consensus was the handheld would see a fall launch in the west after being released in Japan a bit earlier. But with the massive earthquake that left certain parts of Japan in shambles, SCEA boss Jack Tretton told Bloomberg that the console might be delayed in certain regions.
To gamers calling for the next round of consoles to happen now, head of Sony Corp.’s U.S. operations, Jack Tretton, has a word for you – “PlayStation’s just hitting its stride”.

PS3 is about 3 years old now, dropping exclusives one after the other with each raising the bar to new heights. The giant has lead the gaming industry for the last two generations but has seen its lead and dominance dwindle due to the rise of the jugerrnaut Xbox 360.
But Jack Tretton, CEO of SCEA, stands undeterred by whatever else is occurring with different companies. He sees the PS3 as future proof technology and as a console that will stand the test of time to usher the PlayStation brand back to the top again.
