NGP Might See Delay In Certain Regions Due To Japan Quake

by Ernice Gilbert on April 4th, 2011, under Hot, News, Sony

Although no NGP release dates have been announced, the general consensus was the handheld would see a fall launch in the west after being released in Japan a bit earlier. But with the massive earthquake that left certain parts of Japan in shambles, SCEA boss Jack Tretton told Bloomberg that the console might be delayed in certain regions.

Tretton explained that a number of its factories in the north of the country have had to close for repairs, and there is also a shortage of component parts from suppliers in the damaged area.

Although delaying NGP in certain regions would result in a lost of market share, Tretton tried to spin the disappointing news in a positive light, saying the extra time would give developers more time to complete their games for the portable console.

“It may be the straw that says ‘maybe we get to just one market by the end of the year,’” he said.

Tretton didn’t specify which market, but of course, Japan would be my million dollar bet.

We’ll see how it all plays out.

Thanks, Gamasutra.

hope not, dying to get my hands on the bad boy!
JP would get it first, and you would assume since were in the same region we would get it the same time.
but we wont, like the ps3 they will release it a month or 2 later in the US, then make EU and us wait 6+ months!
can never understand why sony does that, chucks us in the EU band instead of euroasia.
M$ and ninty do, so why not sony?

I’d love to see a worldwide launch…..but that won’t happen. Long as I get my hands on this by Christmas then I’ll be merry.

theres not going to be a worldwide release though.
that never happens for games, let alone hardware!
would have to manufacture millions of units, millions of copies of each launch title.
    a massive ask!
hopefully will see a late TGS release, maybe around OCT, then a november release for the states, and a late november, december release everywhere else.
