The talk’s been wavering quite a bit concerning PS3′s longevity and the impending debut of PS4, so PlayStation U.S. boss Jack Tretton has tried yet again to put such grapevine ramblings to rest, making known to Forbes that Sony will be dedicated to PS Vita in the near future, and that PS3 is still current. In fact it’s the most current console available.
That’s Jack in his own words speaking to the publication, adding, “PS3′s just hitting its stride”.
“PlayStation 3 is really just hitting its stride,” he insisted. “And technologically, I don’t think it’s possible to provide any advancement beyond what we have.”
“What we’ve seen from the competition is trying to add features that already exist in PlayStation 3,” he said.
“We invested heavily in that, we rolled a very heavy rock up a steep hill, through the launch period. But now I think that all pays off, and we’ve got a long run way behind it. So, I wouldn’t look for any discussion of a next generation PlayStation for quite some time.”
It’s rumored that Microsoft is readying Xbox 720, and Wii U was recently announced at E3. What’s Tretton’s response? He wasn’t very impressed with the latter:
“I think there’s ground to be carved out for everybody. But I didn’t see anything about Nintendo’s announcement that said ‘Oh, we’d better get working on rolling out a new PlayStation here pretty soon.’
Our attitude is kind of ‘welcome to the party.’ If you’re looking at being a multimedia entertainment device, if you’re looking at high def gaming, that was 2006 for us.”

PS3 has atleast 2 or 3 more full years before we see a new one. I gotta say though, that controller in the pic does look kinda cool. And BluRay tech is only getting better so there is still room for improvement. Like I said before, Microsoft and Nintendo have a greater need for improved hardware than Sony does.
That controller does look slick. Sony should pay attention!
yea, thats why the PSV is pretty much a portable ps3?
scuse the french, but what a crock of shit!
they could put out a much more powerful console if they wanted to, but 1 theres no point, and 2 they have lost so much money with the ps3 they cant afford to.
I can wait.
