Confirmed: Project Cafe Is Wii U, Trailer And Screens Inside – The Full Quencher

It’s official, Nintendo’s just confirmed the name of its new console, and it’s called WiiU.

It offers wider appeal than Wii, and will let everyone see games in a different way. The new platform represents a major step to reaching the company’s goal, and will release next year. The console is backwards compatible, therefore all Wii games will be able to be played on Wii U.

The controller is amazing, it enables rumble, it also includes attack screens, microphones, speakers, gyroscope and an inward-facing camera. It was developed to cater to a wide range of gamers.

You can play your games on TV or via the controller, moving around wherever you want with it. Nintendo wants to create a bond with friends and family in the same room. You can share photos and videos, and even enjoying video chat while watching a movie. So you can play a game in your hands while watching another program on your TV. There will be new styles of play, says Miyamoto. There won’t be a shortage of ideas, he says.

Video Thirst: Wii U

A tech demo was just shown, showing the game’s visual prowess, and man, it looks like reality.

Confirmed titles:

Battlefield 3
Batman: Arkham City
Assassin’s Creed: Revelations
Ghost: Recon: Future Soldier
Dirt
Metro Last Light
RAGE
Tekken
Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge

Third-parties then came out to talk about the Wii U. Peter Moore, Vicarious Visions, Danny Bilson, Yves Guilemot, Martin Tremblay of Warner, Jeremiah Slackza, Ken Levine, Warren Spector and Frank Gibeau all showed up.

Darksiders II was shown in action on the new console, and looked stunning. DiRT was also shown as was Aliens: Colonial Marines. Ghost Recon, Metro: Last Light, Tekken (character customisation etc) and we saw Ninja Gaiden 3.

Iwata said he was pleased so many developers were on board with the console, before bringing out John Riccitiello from EA.

Riccitiello said Wii U was a “stunning breakthrough in gameplay technology”, and while he spoke the lofty words, Madden was shown on the screen behind him, and Battlefield, and FIFA, plus Need for Speed and Harry Potter.

“We’re changing games from things that you buy to a place that you go,” he said. He described the EA-Nintendo partnership “unprecedented”.

Wow! I can’t say I am going to run off and get one but it does look impressive. I would like to see the hardcore games run on this machine first. A lot of the things this thing can do, I wouldn’t use. It is almost too much.

I too am impressed. I’m VERY impressed with Wii U – all we need now is some hardcore stuff on there – and it has an online feature just like PSN and Xbox Live.. Nintendo’s done it, it seems… But I’ll wait a bit longer.

I would like to see Nintendo not receive a dumbed down version of games like COD and Battlefield 3. Lets face it. The Wii was horrible for these types of games.

Agreed wholly with your comment. I’d like them to have an on par version, boasting robust online play – then we can dance!

not bad, but why the $#@% would you have the sticks above the buttons right at the top of the controller?
i can see this driving me insane!
adding a screen into the controllers a reall good idea, this way you dont need to have a HUD taking you out of the experience, all the important info like health, ammo and crap can be displayed on the controller.
little too big though, hard to tell in a vid but it looks bigger then the bloody ipad!

It’s not and hands-on folks has said it’s very light. It’s also a comfortable piece of tech. Nintendo won again…
