Microsoft has shown off what it’s calling Xbox IIIumiRoom, a concept which uses Kinect and a projector to augment surrounding objects. It’s quite the quench – check it out below.
All objects around the television screen are projected through visualizations which can “change the appearance of the room, induce apparent motion, extend the field of view, and enable entirely new game experiences.”
Said Microsoft:
IllumiRoom is a proof-of-concept Microsoft Research project designed to push the boundary of living room immersive entertainment by blending our virtual and physical worlds with projected visualizations. The effects in the video are rendered in real time and are captured live — not special effects added in post processing. (Short version presented at CES.)

it looks cool but its not necessary just like 4K isn’t necessary.
It would look cooler if the projected images looked better than they do. I see this as another gimmick…added cost to the consumer with very little pay off. In my opinion of course. I’d rather have a 4K TV because I can enjoy the super HD picture in my games and movies…well on we get consoles and players that take advantage of 4K tech. Nice concept MS…not gonna hate those who innovate! Channeling my inner Jessie Jackson lol. But grainy images super imposed on my dog and posters isnt rocking my boat. Maybe when the final product is shown I will be more impressed. That is “IF” it ever sees a true release…Milo anyone lol
