FIFA 14 Coming to PS4, Xbox 720

You can bet your bottom dollar that FIFA 14 will be released on current generation consoles, however EA has made known that the game will also be released on PS4 and Xbox 720, consoles expected to launch later this year.

Said EA CEO and executive director John S. Riccitiello during last night’s Q3 earnings call:

Beyond Q4, we see a bright light at the end of the tunnel. For EA, digital remains a winner, and our investments are generating strong growth. We’re also investing in Gen4 console technologies and content. We’ve signalled that we’re working on the next editions of our two biggest franchises in Battlefield and FIFA. And we look forward to discussing these programs and many others with you when we provide our fiscal ’14 guidance in May.

Riccitiello later stressed EA’s confidence in FIFA and Battlefield after an investor asked about said tittles:

We believe that FIFA and Battlefield have a shot at certainly remaining in the top 5, quite possibly being 1 and 2, if we’re successful as we move through the next technology transitions we see coming. We do recognize as we move into what we determine or call Gen3, i.e., PlayStation 3, Wii, Xbox 360, we started weak, and we climbed forward, improved, but we lost market share coming into this transition, we climbed back.

We think Battlefield and FIFA are going to help us lead as we move into the next set of technology opportunities and platform opportunities, and continue to get bigger.

EA’s confidence in the franchises derives from the games stellar performances at retail, including over 12 million units of FIFA 13 sold globally, with said game outselling Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 in Europe last year, and Battlefield 3 has sold about 15 million units worldwide.

    decent article, but they dont actually go as far as saying FIFA 14 will have a ps4 version. They just mention that they are investing in next gen, and that they are underway with their next tiles. Like you say, a FIFA 14 is as likely as the sun rising tomorrow morning!! I not convinced that they even will make a FIFA 14 for ps4. it releases in September which may be a bit too early for PS4. They may make a rehashed version of it, like they did with FIFA football for Vita. However if they manage to get it as a release title then that surely would work in their favour!!

    @Fox: I believe it’ll be released on PS4 and Xbox 720, otherwise they wouldn’t expressly mention next-gen machines when talking these two titles.

    True but they dont mention that it will specifically be FIFA 14 or BF4 does it?! obvioulsy they will make these games on next gen, these are their two biggest titles! I dont believe (especially in FIFA’s case) that they will be developing the game on two fronts – ps3 and ps4. FIFA 14 will be released before the ps4 comes out. FIFA 15 yes, FIFA 14? hmm im not so sure.

    Good point. But again, EA must have taken into consideration that some gamers won’t purchase FIFA 13 on current gen because they expect it to be released on PS4 and Xbox 720…. And that number could be hundreds of thousands or even upwards a million… It’d be wise for them to release the game on next-gen consoles once they become available. Even if it’s a upscaled version.

    even if it is upwards of a million thats still not much in comparison to the total sales. Like i said they may do a rehashed version, similar to what they did when the Vita came out. Wether it will be called fifa 14 is debatable though, Only time will tell though i suppose! of course i will be buying it, on both consoles so bring it i say!

    2 perfect games for next gen launch titles!
    battlefield has and always will be a technological marvel, what better to show off the extra grunt next gen systems will have?
    fifa, well next gen development will be more expensive than current, and it will have such a small install base, so you need a game that you know will fly off the shelves.
    if fifa is not that game, nothing is!
    i just hope it properly utilizes the systems capabilities, and is not the usual fifa port, cough fifa 13 for the vita.
    indistinguishable from the fifa game which launched with the system!
    now that THQ has gone broke, i wish DICE would buy the red faction license.
    imagine what they could do with the geo physics engine!
    guerrilla was such a awesome game, we totally need a sequel!
