Valve has confirmed to Kotaku that it’s not planning to unveil a console like the rumors claimed, at least not anytime soon.
“We’re prepping the Steam Big Picture Mode UI and getting ready to ship that, so we’re building boxes to test that on,” said Valve’s Doug Lombardi. “We’re also doing a bunch of different experiments with biometric feedback and stuff like that, which we’ve talked about a fair amount.
All of that is stuff that we’re working on, but it’s a long way from Valve shipping any sort of hardware.”
Kotaku went on to note that Valve never said that it would not, or was not working on a console, only that they weren’t planning on unveiling anything, anytime soon.

see i knew it. now everyone can shut up about the steam box. i really got tired of telling people that there was no point to valve releasing a console/mini-pc
of course there going to say that!

what did you expect, them to come out and reveal it just in a small interview?
in all seriousness i cant see valve releasing a console, but just because they say there not does not mean there not.
what id love to see is full steam support with ps3 and wiiU, but thats never going to happen either.
maybe next gen.
What the “Steam Box” was, supposedly, going to be, was bad. Just plain bad. It was a PC that would be TV-ready, and that’s it.
PCs are already TV ready.
it was suppose to be like the alienware X41, a cheap mini PC.
not really necessary.
alienware can get away with it because they have a flock of blind sheep that blindly follow them wherever they go.
valve though, well, theres really no reason why you would buy a steam box over a cheap XPS or something.
i guarantee i could build a PC more powerful, and cheaper then what valve come out with the steam box!
Yeh it would support that Valve/Steam TV thing, I don’t remember how it was called. It would basically be a PC tower that operates as a console, with some interchangeable parts. I’d prefer to spend that money to build my own PC.
