Game soundtracks are added for a variety of different reasons, to add tension, to get stuck in the players head, to enhance the gameplay, to add drama or even to make you laugh. But what a game theme tune is, has changed dramatically over the years. From the catchy bleeps of the 80′s, to dramatic full orchestral epics that accompany the gameplay of most triple A titles today. But no matter what style they are, and for what reason they are added to a game, their are a small handful of songs that stand out as being “special”. So turn up the volume and get ready to enjoy the music from Gamesthirst’s top 5 most memorable game theme tunes.

ARE YOU KIDDING WHAT ABOUT BATTLE FIELD THEME MUSIC FUUUUUUUUU
@LingLingjr The battlefield theme was originally going to be in this. Had the song recorded and everything. But unfortunately it got out voted. It’s hard to pick 5. Had to cut out mario and mega man 2 as well.
NOTHING TOPS METAL GEAR SOLID!!!!! YES! Great pick on the last one! All were great but number one was well deserved.
I can agree with you on Metal Gear and Halo, but I would have to put uncharted 2, battlefield and mario in there.
Killer Instinct: Orchid’s theme song! It was legend! Still is..
favorite music used in a game has to be the music on the start up screen for dantes inferno.
epic, and perfectly set for the style of game.
That’s it? Come on…Donkey Kong I say!

the soundtrack in the original metal gear was really good too.
