DICE and its Battlefield 3 shooter have been fielding some questions from ‘certain’ gamers as more details concerning the console version of the game come to light. We recently learnt that, unlike what DICE had said, the PC version will look better, obviously. News also surfaced concerning the title’s frame rate, with DICE settling for 30FPS. Now as for output, it’ll be rendered in 720p on consoles and to that DICE says, ‘uh, yeah?’
When asked by a fan on Twitter about the 720p resolution output on consoles, Rendering Architect at DICE Johan Andersson replied: “yes, just as 99% of all games for those platforms.”
He went on to reply to another fan saying: “how is [720p] a shame? name a single FPS game that runs at 1080p on any of the consoles? would have to do huge gameplay cuts.”
Adding: “We think huge levels, lots of players, great fx, destruction, vehicles & varied gameplay is more important than 1080p.”
Battlefield 3 saw its first console debut on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon last Thursday, and ever since tidbits of information concerning the title have been coming to light, information that’s causing quite a stir amongst many gamers. But is it DICE’s fault? The developer once said that the game would look the same across all platforms. So although people may feel the need to rage at gamers who are somewhat disappointed, DICE has a role to play in this.
