Update Coming To GT5, Might Bring Back Performance Points

by Ernice Gilbert on February 14th, 2011, under News, Polyphony Digital, SCEJ, Sony

In all honesty, Gran Turismo 5 is one of the most content-filled games to hit any console, and yet Polyphony Digital’s releasing more as time goes by. What’s the latest? A tweet from the boss himself, Kazunori Yamauchi, hints at an update that will revive the Performance Points system first helmed in Prologue.

“In the next update. What day 18 February. RT @ driftlover35r: @ Kaz_Yamauchi PP scheme is implemented or when? Have the same advantage in torque power difference, I get the penalty (° д °;),” Yamauchi re-tweeted to a fan’s question concerning new updates.

In prior updates, the developer’s added Seasonal Events, online mechanical damage, and more. Good to see them supporting GT5 in an exceptional way.

Thanks, PSLS.

nice to see a developer open to changes, most developers just say nope its out there and open, dont like it go jump!
i really wish they would update the damage model though, i mean how can you bump off a wall at 300KMPH and not have a single panel fly off?
ive flipped my cars quite a few times, than driven off with nothing more than a few dints and a cracked windscreen!
i think a flip is going to do a little more then a cracked windscreen and a few dents!
i wish they would add the damage model from NFS shift, only thing i really liked about the game when you crash you actually felt like you crashed.
not like GT5 where when you slam into a wall it feels like you just jumped onto i nice comfy lounge!
GT5 really does feel like a aging dinosaur, especially considering the 5+ years of development i was expecting a hell of allot more!
will be interesting to see what shift 2 and forza 4 bring to the table, hopefully they wont humiliate GT5 too much.
