Games Thirst Bulletstorm Demo Impressions

Bulletstorm. It’s a shooter being developed by People Can Fly with much help from Epic Games, and to be published by EA. It’s pitched as a fun-shooter, one that doesn’t take things too seriously. One, the developer claims, we’ll be different from the rest in many ways.

But with so many games on the horizon, games that are already well established, including the mammoth Killzone 3, is Bulletstorm worth the extra time and cash of investment, or should your “rent this later”?

Let’s head past the break to find out.

Is It Fun?

Bulletstorm is a fun game, yes. You’re allowed to do many actions, from killing by kicking your enemies away from you, to shooting them in the balls – all of which comes with skill points. You can also hurl enemies to you with an electric force coming from your left hands and by the time they arrive, you’ll be able to either shoot or kick them with ease because the electric shock would have already left them stunned. The characters don’t die with one shot but the extra power available compensates for their diehard status.

Overall, not taking things too serious, the game manages to keep you excited, at least from the demo’s perspective.

Guns

By all means, if a game’s title’d ‘Bulleststorm’ you expect to see some massive guns, right? Well the demo didn’t allow for use of all the weapons, however the few that were available holds promise. I don’t really like the sound of weapons, however, it’s almost as if you’re shooting a toy-gun when using them. There’s no bang, making the game feel like it’s missing something.

Like I’ve already said, your left hands also works as a weapon, a gun of sorts, so rest assured you’ll be satisfied with the arsenal.

Graphics

The game looks beautiful, with lots of color that could sometimes make it look like a fantasy world. It’s nothing we’ve not seen before, however, Killzone and Rage are at a higher level.

Dialogue

There’s an awful lot of swearing going on in Bulleststorm, but there’s an option to turn it off so that does it for me. Other than that, there seems to be a lot of ‘don’t care’ type attitude in the game, and so you’ll often hear screams of “hell yeah” and the like. It’s supposed to be fun so expect that kind of thing.

My Takeaway

I am not yet convinced that I should go out and purchase Bulleststorm, as I’m feeling like it’s missing something. Maybe it’s because I only played the demo so I’ll wait on some reviews. But still, even when the reviews go live, I think I’ll rent first.

i am going to buy it because of the beta access, and the fact that I really liked the demo. I can’t wait to play it with my friends. I usually would not buy this game because it is a fps, but it reminds me of old games that did not take anything seriously and was just fun. Though the demo became repetitive, I really have a lot of fun with it. I played through it 8 times, and really never got tired of it. So, I am sure I will love the full game.

really enjoyed the demo, just a shame they dont let you unlock any new weapons or abilities.
i was constantly left to whipping people towards me, shooting them than kicking them in the family jewels the whole time!

    Yeah, kind of repetitive.
