CD Projekt Red reveals new info on Cyberpunk

The Witcher 2

An interesting Q&A with The Witcher 2 developers revealed some intriguing information regarding their newest project, Cyberpunk, an RPG based on the pen & paper game of the same name. CD Projekt Red revealed some information regarding classes, customization and locations, as well as what inspires them for the project. The Q&A follows, intact:

Richie79: What elements are you using as inspiration (references) for making Cyberpunk?

Marcin Momot: There are quite a few actually. Aside from the obvious ones like the works of William Gibson or the Blade Runner movie, we also take from the first Ghost in the shell, both anime and manga. We’re also looking up to ShellShock because of its interesting approach to gameplay. The first part of Deus Ex is also a very important source of inspiration to us.

Guipit: Will choosing your class affect the story? If so, how much?

MM: It’s always been very important to us to deliver mature and ambitious entertainment. It’s not going to be any different this time around. We want to keep the role system from the pen & paper version of Cyberpunk. As opposed to the regular fantasy set-up with mages, warriors and archers, we’re going for something different. In Cyberpunk, each character role will offer a set of special skills that will impact your stats in many different ways. That’s where the challenge kicks in, we want to create a game where character customization will be strongly tied with the plot. Now going from that, we believe that we can make a game where, with many different role choices, you will get a very strong, engaging story, just like it was with The Witcher.

Mihura: Will there be full customization of our character like a D&D game, things like gender, ethnicity, moral stand point, sexuality…etc or we will be restrict to something like Geralt from TW2?

MM: We definitely want to give players way more freedom with customization of the main protagonist then they had with Geralt in The Witcher series. We are planning on letting them change their statistics, equipment, implants and much more.

Saoe: When can we expect to see more info, screenshots or first videos from the game?

MM: I keep bothering guys from the art team to release some new content soon but they don’t want to listen to me for some reason. I won’t give up though, so make sure to follow our website and social media because when I finally convince them, you will be the first ones to know.

Geralt The Riv: Will the setting be a totally new designed by CDPR(You know like name of the planet, country, state, city etc) or just a mimic of a current location?(New York, L.A. Miaimi etc…..)

MM: Cyberpunk’s story takes place all over the world, but we’re going to focus on it’s most characteristic venue – Night City. One thing is certain, we want to make a game with an open, living world that stays true to the source material.

i really enjoyed the witcher 2 so i cant wait for this!
once there finished this i wish sega would hire them to do alpha protocol 2!
such a awesome game, and one franchise with oh so much potential!
a style of game that would really suit the team really well!

Alpha Protocol 2 was indeed good but under-delivered. Was it a disaster that got remade, but failed to meet the deadline in a good form? That’s what I think when I play it. That the devs had a couple of months to remake the game from scratch. But CDPR, I think they’ll touch everything that they can work onto, and turn it to gold.

well according to obsidian SEGA kept changing the requirements of the game so thats why it ended up a half baked mess!
and that makes allot of sense theres allot of new things added through the missions where you can see oh this is what they mean by constantly changing requirements.
apparently the turn over rate of the game was through the roof, so many people were leaving and when people were coming in to continue the work they were implementing their own stuff instead of continuing the work that was there.
its a shame, i wish SEGA would give them a bigger budget, as much time as they need, and LEAVE THEM THE HELL ALONE!
then the franchise would be up to its true potential!
the game had so much new things in it, especially the relationships within the game.
how many games promise customer customization?
you shaping the story, you shaping the levels, you changing what you get and what you dont?
    tons!
and how many actually deliver that?
    very few!
thats one of the things i loved about alpha protocol, especially how you communicated with the characters through email and if you pissed off, or friends the wrong people you paid for it quick smart!
it was one of the VERY few games that actually make you regret what you did!
i wish SEGA would let obsidian do a sequel, theres so much potential in the franchise!

@nick I still need to play The Witcher 2, I’ve heard nothing but good things about it and considering it’s on the Xbox 360 now for $40 I don’t really have an excuse not to try it out.

    chop chop!
seriously dude its one of THE best RPGs out there!
just make sure you take your time with it, you will get allot more out of it if you try and do some side missions and pay attention to the story, its not a game you can rush through just doing the main missions.
