Electronic Arts is seeking feedback from users of its divisive Origin service, asking its customers to “help shape the future” of its PC digital distribution platform.
Despite the apparent success of the service – in February EA said Origin had brought in $100 million from 9.3 million users – EA admits on its website that it has been so focused on building for the future that it hasn’t done a good job of communicating Origin’s existing feature-set. It says its experience in helping one struggling customer get past an error screen “made it obvious to us that some of Origin’s most fundamental features – like the ability to play your games from any PC – weren’t as clear as we’d hoped.”
It asks that users comment on features they’re happy with, as well as suggesting things they’d like added in the future. It’s risky of EA, given the publisher’s current image – last month it was voted the worst company in America by a US consumer website – but also, it must be said, quite brave.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the depth of feeling about the service EA launched amid some controversy last year, the comments that have been left so far are mostly negative. One user writes: “I do not like the privacy policy, the integration with Battlefield 3 is horribly obtuse and obstructive, and only through the brilliance of BF3 do I suffer through the quagmore of Battlelog and Origin integration.”
