The NPD has declared Sony the winner in the Australian games market for 2011.

According to the NPD, PS3 software, hardware and peripheral sales accounted for over 25 percent of units sold and 31 percent of value at Australian retail chains, given it the largest portion of any platform.

Also, apart from noting PS3 saw “year-on-year growth in online revenues across the PlayStation Network,” digital numbers were released.

The PS3, according to Sony, outperformed its competition with a 24 percent sales increase.

“The uplift on PS3 sales was no small feat, in fact, our percentage year-on-year unit growth was triple that of our nearest competitor,” said SCE Australia boss Michael Ephraim – PS3′s Australia install base now stands at 1.5 million.
