The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is a game that’s full of ironies. It’s an RPG that’s packed with awesome moments enough to make you feel good about your purchase, but at the same time the many bugs plaguing it makes you feel like breaking something. Well, some gamers who purchased Skyrim have had enough of the latter, and they’re demanding a refund.
“How in the hell did this game get game of the year,” ranted one gamer on Skyrim’s official forum. “The developers and even the moderators on this site have to know that is total BS. They never give their opinion of that but deep down they HAVE to know how much of a fail that is.
I always wondered how any game tester could have played this game ONE time through and not identified at least most of the bugs. I have noticed a ton already.
I officialy cannot finish the game now because of broken quests. I’d have to restart my entire game and hope it doesn’t happen again. Not going to do that.
I would like to know is there any means of a full refund? I cannot be compensated for the 15 hours of frustration I have suffered from trying to play this game. So naturally In any other situation when I purchase an item that does not work, I have the option to be refunded. Is this an idea this company is willing to honor?”
Another said: “The game crashes everytime I play it… I don’t expect a refund and I doubt they’ll do anything like that. But yeah, how did this game pass for release? Is there a law on this? Anyway, even after patches 1.02 and 1.03, the problem seems to persist!! Very disappointed….”
While “kris_dy0000″ concluded: “We definitely need a refund. We got SCAMMED.”
The PS3 version of Skyrim has been suffering with lag so incessant it actually stalls progress. And while Bethesda’s promised a “legacy fix” for the PS3 version of the game, the patch that’s supposed to address the lag issue won’t arrive in the upcoming version 1.4.
We’ve already spoken about compensation, advising that Bethesda should give affected PS3 owners free DLC to make up for the game-breaking issues Skyrim suffers. But we have no idea if the developer will listen to our suggestion. The patch will go live this month.
At the end of the day, though, it was Skyrim forum user Ingmartin who said it best: “At this point, I don’t want a refund…I want a working game that I an play through to the end.
If they are unwilling to offer refunds to effected PS3 gamers, then fix it. Then, if they care about retaining the customers they have been neglectful of, they should provide us with any future DLC for free.”
Skyrim won the most coveted award at last year’s VGAs.
It is starting to feel like we have been fleeced for the sake of awards and profit, even though it is more likely this is a result of rushed programming and carelessness in testing. Regardless, they owe us something more than a playable game…especially after three months.
At the very least an apology! ”
