Sony London Warehouse Suffers Extensive Fire Damage As Unrest In Britain Continues

Sony’s said distribution of compact discs, dvds, Blu-Rays etc., will be affected after its sole warehouse for content located in London was set ablaze by British rioters in wake of the country’s massive unrest that’s rocking Europe.

The warehouse, a three-storey, 20,000 square meter building has been burning since late Monday and into early Tuesday morning in London, as rioters reek havoc across Britain over the shooting of a man by armed police. The warehouse is insured, so Sony can rest easy, but the fire will stall distribution for some time, said spokeswoman said Yoko Yasukochi for Sony in Japan.

“There will likely be some impact on deliveries,” she said.

“We cannot determine the cause of the fire or the extent of the damage yet because it’s not possible to enter the building,” continued, adding, “No injuries have been reported from the fire.”

Sony stocks were down 2.0 percent at 1,724 yen in late afternoon trade in Tokyo on Tuesday, faring slightly better than the Nikkei average, which was down 2.3 percent.
