Nintendo’s hoping to make good on some of the issues that held back Wii back, one of them being the lack of DLC on the console, namely because of the lack of an online component to funnel it through. Things, however, will be different with 3DS and Wii U, beginning at the end of the year.
According to Andriasang, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata revealed the company’s plans during a Q&A session with investors.
The executive said the DLC will start showing up at the end of the year beginning with Nintendo 3DS.
He continued, adding while the company will look to extend the life of a game by means of downloadable content, it will be selective as to what it allows, as it tries to keep a good relationship with customers.
In light of the success of DLC, Nintendo hope to focus strongly on digital revenue for the next three years, while hoping for a dramatic increase in 3DS eShop sales by 10 percent.
