According to Fox News, PS3, Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii are the last major gaming consoles we’ll see, as said medium is being beaten to death by Android and Apple devices.
So what’s the game pushing said consoles to their death? Zynga’s Angry Birds.
“Big changes coming to the world of console gaming,” said Fox News Science and Technology Editor Jeremy Kaplan. “So we have a couple of major gaming systems out there right: Xbox, PlayStation Nintendo Wii, if you don’t use it, at least you know what it is – massive powerhouses and these are companies that have built large fortunes, let’s be honest, on the backs of console gaming.”
He then spoke of the rise of Angry Birds, and how soon we all will be playing it on our Android and Apple devices.
“Recent changes indicate, that console gaming might be going away and I think it’s a lot because of things like the iPhone and the Google Android. If you’re one of those people that does gaming on your phone, you’re not alone. Angry Birds, anyone heard of this thing? A million – billion people are playing Angry Birds,” he exclaimed.
“Angry Birds is a cute little time-waster. You have these birds fly and they hit bricks, whatever. It’s time-wasting, a lot of people call it casual gaming, and the power of casual gaming has taken a lot of emphasis away from consoles,” he said. “Very interesting because for a long time, consoles were these incredible powerhouses. When Sony put out the PlayStation 3, their latest version, they built a special processor just for this thing called the Core.
Now we haven’t heard anything from Sony about the next generation in years.. Market has moved. People are doing things very differently these days.”
He also said that he didn’t know what would happen to Sony and Nintendo now that “core” gamers are going away, and that “we all are gamers now playing Angry Birds”.

First of all FOX News is not to be taken seriously…any intelligent person can see that the organization is run by morons.
As for these claims that this reporter has…a load of crap. And they have been saying console gaming will “fade away” for years. Core gamers are not going away. Where does this fool get his info from? More people play video games on consoles than ever before. And the games available on today’s consoles cannot be experienced on iPhones, Androids or any of those devices. Those devices are not as stable as consoles are. There is too much change in that market for real gamers to take these devices seriously. And that is why consoles will be around for a long time to come.
I do not want to change my device every 4 months. And these devices are constantly changing. Blackberries, iPhones, Androids and so on are great for communication but they stink and giving real gamers amazing gaming experiences.
This reporter clearly knows very little about the gaming industry and what gamers are looking for. Farmville, may be a huge success but that does not mean that gamers are gonna abandon their consoles for some virtual farming. Just because these companies introduce new devices multiple times in one year doesn’t mean that Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft have to follow this trend.
Mass Effect 3, Uncharted 3, Tomb Raider, Battlefield 3, Skyrim, and many other amazing games that are on there way to gamers will only be experienced on consoles and PC’s. I am sorry but the Andriod and Angry Bird will not be the death of consoles.
My Lord this clueless reporters at Fixed news….ROFL! I’ll never give up console gaming for mobile devices! Never. LOL!
Great points CaribbeanClank. Couldn’t have said it any better, because I for one, will never give up my PS3/Xbox 360 for some “angry” bird or whatever else mobile devices offer. Smh.
This article shows just how retarded fox reporters are. I wonder if they just make up news just to get attention and reactions. Of course they are going to sell millions of games when most everybody has a phone or tablet and it only costs 99 cents these games are some that most people play just to pass time. So does he think that gamers are going to start having angry birds competitions like madden or call of duty HELL NO. So everybody let this retard know that console gaming is alive a strong and is not going anywhere for a long time.
yea, and scooby doo is downstairs making my dinner!
the mobile market has exploded in the past few years thanks to apple and the iphone.
whats possible, and whats expected has been greatly evolved.
BUT it will NEVER get to the point of consoles.
people are always looking for the biggest new thing, the best graphics, the largest scale.
phones will never be able to give us that, because no matter how advanced and fast the tech moves, PC tech is always moving faster.
were just starting to see quad core CPUs in phones, but we were seeing them in standard cheap PCs over 6 years ago!
what might take over consoles is portable systems like the psvita.
theres a massive push for portability, and media networking instead of sheer power.
i seriously doubt that will ever happen because the faster tech you put in, the more heat it produces, the faster it runs, the more power it needs.
in a console there not as big a problem, just make the case large with good ventilation and a large well ventilated PSU.
handhelds on the other hand, well a ps3 is not exactly what you would call portable now is it?
I agree with you guys.
