Remedy’s Learned Quite A Few Lessons From Alan Wake

by Ernice Gilbert on May 12th, 2011, under Hot, Microsoft, News, Xbox 360

Like any good developer, Remedy says it’s learnt quite a few good lessons from developing Alan Wake, and intends to use those lessons in their future projects.

That’s what the studio’s managing director Matias Myllyrinne told Edge recently, one of the lessons being “how to get faster from point A to point D without necessarily going through point B and C” while developing the first AW.

“We’ll continue to make mistakes, but I think we won’t make the same mistakes,” he said. “You’re supposed to fuck up every now and again, and if you’re not making mistakes, you’re pretty much not taking enough risks.”

“I think that’s perfectly fine and we want to embrace that: everyone’s allowed to fail here at what they do, and I think that’s part of the safety net that allows people to try harder and push themselves.”

The dev did mention that they’ll probably end up making mistakes again, but that those errors will land them in “a cool and interesting place once again”.

“Those moments that we had in development when you’re supposed to have a dramatic moment, if you’re not controlling the pacing, the player’s turning up to a scene in a monster truck and you’re going: ‘Okay… it’s supposed to be a dramatic love scene, the characters are going through serious marital issues’, and yet the player comes jumping over logs with a frigging monster truck.”

By the way, there’s a new Alan Wake under development, and it’s not Alan Wake 2.

they need to work on the combat.
the boss battles were fun, but everything else was really boring!
they need to stop with the teasing to, they set something up, then hint its a lie, then hint its true, then hint its a lie, then hint its true.
    enough already!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
thats one thing i hated about alan wake, the storys so hard to follow because you have no freaking idea whats real, whats fake, what happened, and what was just a dream.
this time please actually end the story too.
i hate it when games just end abruptly making you feel like you missed out on half the game!
    cough KZ3, this, GOW3.
they have a fuse going through the whole game, then you get to the climax, your expecting a huge bang but you get nothing!
    wheres the kaboom?
i was expecting a earth shattering kaboom!
    ahhhhhhhhh, good old loony tunes!
shame we have not seen any more of those games, bug and taz time busters was a classic!
in fact playing it on my PSP now.

it was stupid, i mean why would he do that?
the pacing really off, your racing through the game killing everything then once you kill zeus you ……
dont want to say any more because, well, some people may not of finished it yet so.
theres so many questions raised in the game, and from previous games that go unanswered.
its suppose to be the end of the trilogy, so your suppose to answer all the questions and close the story up.
    not open up more!
