Project Cafe = Wii 2 – The Full Quencher

by Ernice Gilbert on April 15th, 2011, under E3, E3 2011, Hot, News, Nintendo, Wii 2

And just when you thought the Wii 2 rumors were said and done, more details are erupting like a massive volcano’s about to erupt at E3. What’s hot now? Well details on the console’s specs have emerged, along with its alias – “Project Cafe”.

More past the break.

According to French site 01net, which previously released the NGP specs way before any official announcement, “Wii 2′ is being internally referred to as ‘Project Café’, and sports architecture similar to that of the Xbox 360, “but a bit more powerful”.

According to the site’s sources, who’ve been right on numerous occasions, “Project Cafe” include a custom IBM PowerPC CPU with three cores, a GPU from the ATI R700 family with a shader unit at version 4.1, and at least 512Mb of RAM.

Not only would this make console ports easier for developers, but ‘Project Café’ will also include backwards compatibility with both the Wii (including all peripherals) and GameCube games, said the site.

The console’s controller has a six-inch touch screen, a front-facing camera, D-Pad, two bumpers, two triggers and “possibly more,” and can also be used as a Wii sensor bar. Intriguing stuff.

The report concluded that Project Cafe will launch in late 2012, and another “big surprise” about the console is set to be revealed at E3.

Thanks, CVG.

i seriously doubt those are the specs.
if your going to bring out a new console, then why bring it out with outdated tech?
thats pretty much 360 hardware, but the 360 released what 5 years ago?
talk about bringing a knife to a gun fight!
