Valve Refuses To Go Public

by Ernice Gilbert on September 6th, 2010, under Hot, News, Valve

Valve is one of the most recognizable and respected developers in the gaming industry, so there’s no question that if the game goes public, its value would appreciate instantly. The studio, however, refuses to make the move, citing the fear of intervention in creative decisions by shareholders.

And so just like the image above, Valve keeps on running away.

“Any bad decision I ever see out there is because somebody created this different customer that was whoever funds them,” lead designer Erik Johnson told the latest issue of PC Gamer, “and not the consumer of the product.”

“You end up with a totally different set of decisions, and the person who’s trying to design the experience is like ‘Okay, I guess we’ll put Christopher Walken in our game,’” Valve Boss, Gabe Newell inserted.

The studio was founded in 1996 and has since remained independent. Also, some of the highest ratedgames in the industry were helmed at Valve, and now, the popular puzzle game, Portal 2 will be its latest coming out on February 9th, 2011.
