I was wrong. The reason we haven’t seen Crysis 2 on PS3 is not because EA and Sony have a great relationship, but rather because the game actually sucks on the console. For a machine with games like Killzone 3 and Uncharted 2 showcasing its first party power, and developers like Visceral with Dead Space 2, and DICE with its Battlefield: Bad Company games nailing down the system’s architecture, it’s a shame that Crytek, a studio that usually boasts of its capabilities, is set to release a PS3 game that’s inferior in more ways than one to the Xbox 360′s version.
Just a crying shame.
Many of IGN’s journalists got a chance to play Crysis 2 PS3 at GDC, and all agreed that it ran poorly on the console.
“This week at the Game Developers Conference we were made a final promise to see the PS3 version of Crysis 2 after the announcement of its multiplayer beta on the system launching March 15th, and I spent about half an hour with Crysis 2′s multiplayer on the system.
The verdict? Not so great, unfortunately. The performance of the PS3 version is pretty underwhelming. The framerate is frequently low and choppy. There are jagged lines everywhere, and shadows are especially messy. There’s a muddiness to the graphics that’s hard to stomach in the wake of the PS3′s other flagship showpieces, and worse, the variable framerate really hurts controller response.”
Nothing more to say here. Buy the game for your 360 or better yet your PC, as it’ll run best there. But if you only own a PS3, give the game a rent first… In fact, it’ll be better to wait for the reviews. After all, they could fix it before release.
