Xbox 360 has realized a nice sales boost in Japan thanks to the release of the slimmer model Microsoft unveiled at E3. 800 percent to be precised, selling 17,370 units, with 15K of those being the new slim model.
According to Andriasang who provided the translation, the Xbox 360 sold only 2,060 units the week prior. The release of the new console came together with the launch of a major exclusive Xbox 360 title in Japan, Monster Hunter Frontier, with said game topping the charts with sales of 93K units.
Although these numbers must encourage Microsoft’s Japanese push, the Xbox 360 still lagged behind the other consoles. It was outsold by the PSP, DSi, Wii and PS3:
DSi – 41,676
PSP – 23,257
PS3 – 19,578
Wii – 19,115
Xbox 360 – 17,673
Still, it’s good to see some signs of life for the console in Japan.

amazing really considering theres not many games releasing for it, and the ones that are normally dont sell well in JP.
last time i checked Japanese are not keen on shooters.
They really don’t, actually. Different regions different tastes.
i know, allot of guys in my class are Japanese and if its not a JRPG than they dont want to know about it!
i dunno how you can be so closed minded, i mean dont you get bored of playing the same styled game over and over again?
An exclusive Monster Hunter game was released that week as well so that may be a major factor.
I agree with ExclusivesMostly. Monster Hunter definitely played a significant role…
