Alright, I’ll be the first to admit this: Nintendo really did the hardcore a disservice this generation by seemingly neglecting said crowd. But now we’re well past the 5th year mark of the seventh generation of gaming and I think it’s time we let go of the grudge.
After all, Nintendo has been the most successful out of the three companies, selling over 65 million Wii consoles to date. Those numbers are nothing to scoff at that’s for sure. Industry insiders have been speculating on when the next generation, (which will be the eighth) will begin. Some say it’s 2012, others guess it’s 2014 and some think this generations might be the last to see gaming consoles. With the rise of OnLive, one might need to think really hard about the latter stance, but is that even possible? I don’t think so, I do believe all three giants will yet again release gaming consoles, and although I’m excited to see what the PS4 and the Next Xbox will look like, for some reason, the next Wii is what pique’s my interest.
Maybe it’s because I grew up playing Nintendo games and enjoyed every system from NES to Gamecube. Or maybe it’s just because I’d love to see what they’ve learnt from their mistakes and see how the lessons might be implemented in their next console. I mean, it would really be something if Nintendo’s Wii had the power of PS3 and 360; what experiences might we have had if this was so? What upcoming exclusives would we be bragging about for said system? A whole lot of what ifs is what we’re left with. I reckon it should not be this way but what’s set in stone can’t be undone; at least in Nintendo’s case the company gets to reset the next time around, and honestly, I’m looking for to Wii2, its specs, capabilities and price more than any other system.

I can’t wait to see what it is. Nintendo is a company that makes very little sense to me a lot of times, but they created the DS and then the Wii.
The one area I hope the “Wii2″ improves upon, is the online system. Getting rid of friend codes is my biggest wish.
I honestly don’t care much about graphics, as the Wii has proven for me that game-play tops graphics any day.
That being said, I do hope the graphics are updated enough, so the lazy third party developers that like to ignore the current Wii, will then at least hopefully port over more games to the Wii2.
I think if Nintendo shuffle its cards currectly, it could totally own the next gen. See although the hardcore might be upset and still do feel neglected, I beleive Ninti can easily win them back.
It is really the most popular company, the one with the most longevity, so if they can win the hardcore and at the same time keep the casual, they will destroy MS and Sony, even worst next time around.
here’s what im wondering. do you think that the next console from Nintendo will have the graphics of ps3 and xbox 360, or will it just skip ahead and have the graphics of whatever sony and microsoft release next.
I might just skip ahead. And that would be something big. If Nintendo skip past the other two, the eight generation of consoles will only become more exciting than I’m sure it will be.
I think the problem, is that if they skip ahead, third parties will use that as an excuse to not develop on the Wii2.
Most third parties haven’t even utilized the Wii fully in the graphics department, I wish they would do that before worrying with the Wii2.
I don’t see why Nintendo’s next console wouldn’t be good. I mean come on look at how much money they have made from the wii and the ds. If they don’t bring out something impressive I will be very surprised.
Excellent! That means they can drop the price of the Wii to about 10 pounds – which is what it’s worth.
Hopefully the Wii2 will be about as powerful as the 360/PS3, so it’ll probably stay one generation behind..
