Sony Shuts Down Zipper Interactive

magnew

SOCOM and MAG developer Zipper Interactive is no more, Sony’s confirmed.

Sony made known the news to GameInformer in a written statement:

“Sony Computer Entertainment can confirm the closure of Zipper Interactive, a Seattle-based internal game development studio that has been part of the global development operation of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios. The closure is a result of a normal cycle of resource re-alignment within SCE WWS.

Zipper has completed all work associated with its most recent project, Unit 13 for PlayStation Vita. Zipper titles MAG, SOCOM 4 and Unit 13 will continue to be supported, including the new Daily Challenges in Unit 13.”

80 employees will become redundant.

    sad.
zipper was a pretty good studio i would of loved to see a new SOCOM game!
changing socom 4 to a crappy action COD wannabe is what caused this.
sad to see one of the families biggest most synonymous studios being closed down.
ive said it once, twice, a billion times and ill say it again.
theres no justice in this industry!
shit developers like slant six get to desystroy famous series after famous series after famous series.
decent studios like zipper get shut down.
    :(
make shit games get new contract.
make good games get shut down.
how the ^%$# does that work!?

yeah its sad to see such a great studio fall so far!
oh what i would give for a socom 5 exactly how the originals were!
im really surprised we have not had any games try to copy it.
it was so popular back on the ps2 i thought we would of had heaps of tactical military games.
i really hope someone brings the series back were really in desperate need of some team based tactical shooters!
come to think of it, i still got my headset from the last ps2 socom!
i remember seeing a add for it about the voice commands and rushing to the store screaming that is so cool!!!!!!!!
oh zipper, what happened to the ambition!?

Unit 13 was pretty solid game…but jobs lost hurts families. Hope everyone lands on their feet.

Yeah, same here. Redundancies always hit families hard.
