Madden developer Robin Antonick filed a lawsuit against EA in 2011, claiming his code from the 80′s Madden games was found in later EA Madden titles without his permission. The US Dicstrict Court ruling in favor of the developer. A jury awarded Antonick with around 11$ million in royalties and interest, after three days of deliberations. The jury also claimed that Madden games from 1990 through 1996 were “virtually identical” to Antonick’s game, including similar plays and formations.
Antonick’s attorney, Rob Carey, called the verdict one “tremendous victory”, and that the finale paved the way for Antonick to go further and pursue claims of EA using his code for games released Madden post-1996.
