The creator of Heavy Rain and the upcoming Beyond: Two Souls has made known his disdain for sequels, telling OPM UK in an interview that “sequels kill creativity”.
Said Cage:
If you’re interested in innovation and believe that games could be more than shooters, then you realise that sequels kill creativity and innovation.
Many people want the same and if that’s what you offer them, they will gladly buy it. The result is very simple. Gamers invest money in publishers having no interest in innovation.
The Quantic Dream boss blamed gamers for this phenomenon, although I can’t understand why. What, shouldn’t we buy a game that’s apparently good? Because his argument is that these games continuously sell, so publishers continually pump them out. Isn’t that what it’s all about, though?
Cage goes on to say that he does not give gamers what they expect. Some would want a Heavy Rain sequel, but that, it seems, will never happen.
We don’t give people what they expect. We want to give them something they want without knowing they want it.

i don’t think it kills creativity. i think that it water downs franchises though if you don’t improve vastly with each iteration. like assassin’s creed, though as much as i love the series they didn’t really improve that much in AC3 besides the graphics. i personally think that AC2 was way bigger jump from the first AC than AC3 was.

yea SOME are yesterdays cut and paste, but that does not mean all of them are!
i would of loved to see a sequel for heavy rain, so many other places they could of taken it!
he gets a bit carried away at times, sees one thing and treats it as if its constant 100% of the time.
