According to Valve fan website Lambdageneration.com, a user named “Hesam” sent the website’s moderators a tip, revealing that Half-Life 3 will be revealed at Gamescom according to a PDF list of games to be showcased at Gamescom. Inspecting this list, Half-Life 3 was shown to be sixth to last on the list. Although in July, Doug Lombardi, Valve’s VP of marketing, told Lambda Generations that Valve would not have any games to showcase at Gamescom, this lead was too convincing not to investigate.
Curious to see if this was true, Vic, lead editor of Lambda Generation, wrote an article on the tip, talked to a Gamescom representative who told Vic that each and every game on the list will be showcased at Gamescom 2012. Vic later made a call to Gamescom’s public information line, and was told by a manager that Valve wanted Half-Life 3 to be on the list, but, asked for it to be a removed minutes before Vic called.
Gaming website Joystiq.com also wrote an article on the list. Gamescom organizers explained to Joystiq that the listings were mistakes. Lombardi also re-confirmed amongst the rumors that there would not be any games shown at Gamescom. When speaking to Gamescom’s organizers, the organizers informed Joystiq that, “We cannot officially announce it. Please check our list for further changes. Please see the legend for information about the sources.” It should also be noted that Joystiq reported seeing Dragon Age 3 on the list as well, and was one of the listings said to be a mistake.
I will be sure to update this article if there are any changes in the situation. Although it may be mistake, I hope that it is not. I’ve been waiting for Half-Life 3 since The Orange Box. Thoughts on the article? Comment below!
