Oh boy, new rumor water is flooding gaming’s web, folks, this time concerning Microsoft’s next console, with new reports claiming the console was seen at CES 2012 by invite-only individuals, running a next-generation version of Battlefield 3 that’s said to be on par with PC. It’s also apparently called Xbox 8.
Xbox 8 because next generation will be the eighth and final, and also because the console will have a lot in common with Microsoft’s upcoming OS Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8.
Making these claims even more plausible, Epic Games vice president Mark Rein confirmed two months ago that Unreal Engine 4 is already running on next generation consoles, although he couldn’t be specific.
“People are going to be shocked later this year when they see Unreal Engine 4 and how much more profound an effect it will have,” Rein told G4TV.” He later said Unreal Engine 4 is also currently running with “systems we can’t name yet,” at the DICE Awards.
Will “Xbox 8″ see an unveiling at E3 2012? Microsoft’s said no, but they’ve denied many a thing in the past, only to have them confirmed as real later.
It’s rumor water, guys, drink this sparingly.
