Playstation Vita Will Have An External Battery Option – Almost Seems A Necessity

Gamers understandably were upset when they discovered that the Vita would only last a mere 3-5 hours during normal gaming usage. It can last up to 9 hours when listening to music with the device on standby mode but with over two hours needed to re-charge it fully sony’s new portable console was starting to not look very portable. It’s not all doom and gloom however as Sony as since stated that an external battery will be available to extend you gaming hours on the go.

Yoshida-san himself revealed the news in an interview with IGN:
“One of the peripherals is the external batteries that extend the battery life of the PS Vita that you can connect to the PS Vita. So if you are flying from New York to San Francisco or vise versa you have no concerns if you have an additional external battery.”

We don’t yet know how much this external battery will extend the Ps Vita’s battery life but an additional 3-5 hours would be a safe bet. For me this battery will be an essential purchase. What do you think? Is this reasonable or should the Vitas internal battery last longer by itself?
