DICE, over on the official Battlefield blog, has released information on Battlefield 3′s new dog tag system, one which allows players to choose a design in line with their game stats, and will be dynamically tracked.
Battlefield 3′s dog tags will emit excitement never before seen, especially since, according DICE, “extra weight” has been added to these “calling cards”.
Said DICE’s Alan Kertz, senior multiplayer designer:
“Dog tags in Battlefield 3 go beyond just having your name on them. We have hundreds of dog tags that can be your personal calling card. Every time you kill an enemy, they see your tags. It’s your calling card – it’s your place to brag, and dynamic tags can show off how great you are with a knife, a jet, or even show off your personal play style.”
There’s only one way to retrieve a dog tag from an enemy in the game, and that’s by using one of Battlefield 3′s new take downs, similar to knife-melee kills in Killzone 3, where you sneak up from behind and perform a stealth kill.
These special abilities, according to DICE, add “a dynamic visual flair,” while encouraging players to take the risk and go for a “risky” kill instead on gunning the enemy down.
“[It] makes bringing a knife to a gun fight the risky but rewarding experience it was always meant to be,” Kertz said.
Battlefield 3′s beta starts in September, the game itself goes on sale in October.
