These Are The Top Five Most Difficult Villains In Gaming

by Joseph Garrett on June 27th, 2011, under Top 5, Video Thirst

Last week we covered the best enemies. But they were just the drones, the troops at the frontline, now it’s time to look at the brains. These masterminds of evil are the cause of conflict in almost every video game. We need the enemies to fight, but we need the true baddies to send them into battle. So without any further ado, allow me to present Games Thirst’s top 5 game villains.

When picking the top 5 I was determined to step away from the obvious choices and find some deep multi-layerd villains. But once I had my shortlist I discovered a pattern that was relevant for all 5. They were all in some way, good. Whether they start off appearing as a friend before revealing their true colours, or the opposite, spend the duration of the game in conflict with the player before a miraculous change of heart at the games finale. There is even one example of a villain who does not reveal any fact to prove he is bad at all. So maybe the best villains are the ones with good inside them, ones that the player can sympathise with, the ones that keep you guessing.

Have a watch of my picks, then let me know what you think. What villain did you love to hate?

bioshocks final battle, will be remembered in video game history for the rest of time!
one of the best, if not the best story twists ever created!
id have to pick goro from the early MKs, then shao kahn from shaolin monks.
now he was a pain in the a$$!
took me months to defeat him, then when i finally did i screamed like a school girl!
…….. then i found about the lower dungeon where you can get a health upgrade, and health replenisher for the final battle.

I agree with you on the Bioshock final battle piece. It was massive.
