DICE’s Executive Producer Patrick Bach has made it clear that although their game is very competitive in the FPS genre, Battlefield 3 is not a Modern Warfare 3 copycat.
“We’re trying to build the best Battlefield game that we’ve ever built, so it doesn’t really change how people want to position it, and how consumers see it or how media likes to portray this,” Patrick Bach, Executive Producer at DICE told Gamespot in a recent interview when asked about the way EA’s marketing the game as a direct competition to Infinity Ward’s Modern Warfare 3. “To us it’s important to stay focus on building a Battlefield 3. We don’t want to play second fiddle or be a copy [of Modern Warfare 3] – no one wants to be the cover band, you want to be the star,” he continued. “So trying to copy someone else will also put you in second place. We know that we can build great Battlefield games and that’s what we’re doing here as well.”
He also said that Battlefield 3 would “move the [FPS] genre forward”.
