PS4, Xbox 3 To Be 10x More Powerful Than Current Consoles

by Ernice Gilbert on June 16th, 2011, under Hot, News

Think PS3 and Xbox 360 boasts much prowess? That’s child’s play compared to what the PS4 and Xbox 2 will harbor. They won’t be one or two times more powerful – id Software boss John Carmack contends the new consoles will be 10x mightier than the current machines.

That’s what the RAGE developer boss told Eurogamer just recently, adding that said consoles will be here “soon”, “in the next couple of years”.

“It’ll be another ten times as powerful as this [PS3, Xbox 360]. I’d be surprised if that doesn’t last over a decade before people wind up saying, well, we’ve really tapped out everything you could possibly do on there,” he said.

But with the new consoles comes a tougher challenge for developers, Carmack added, how do you make visuals for your particular game stand out?

“The better games get the harder you have to go to give a delta people care about. That’s going to be a challenge for the next-generation of consoles, to show what pack-in title is going to look so much more awesome than what you get on the current ones that people want to go spend $300 on a new console.

They’ll be able to do it on the next generation, but it’s going to be much harder.”

And we can’t wait.

That amount of power would be mental. A good mental btw, I’d love it!

2 or so years before new consoles we get all these grand promises and predictions. And the never come true. PS3 was supposed to have multiple HDMI inputs and a much more advanved graphics card. We always get the watered down versions of these dream machines.

LOl. You speak the truth, CaribbeanCLANK. You speak the truth indeed. Let’s hope this time around it’s different.

We will see how long it takes them to push the limits of the console.

Developers are now beginning to push the bar of the PS3

Yeah, agreed. We’re now seeing PS3 pushed to the max by Naughty Dog and some others….

    I hope I don’t see PS3 grade games on the PS4/XBOX 3

I’m sure we will – but there will be developers who’ll surely push those systems.

no they wont, companies have become more cost weary then what they were in previous days.
especially sony they spent a 6 arms and 5 legs developing and releasing the ps3, and it took quite awhile to start selling.
they went from king of the market having the best selling console of all time!
not only best selling, but it absolutely trounced the gamecube and xbox!
from king of the hill, to bottom of the bunch!
sony lost allot with the launch of the ps3, there still bleeding money!
they will play it safe, as will other manufactures because its not such a stable market as it use to be.
we only saw a high influx of sales for this generation of systems because of the HD era, the new tvs coming out.
next gen what will the push be for new consoles?
we already have amazing almost realistic graphics, we already have multimedia centers, we already have social networking.
of course these will get better more advanced but theres really nothing next gen systems that can bring us that defines them like previous hardware has.
there the 2 things that will stop manufactures from going nuts, its just not required in fact its stupid!
    and its far too costly.
whats really interesting though is as john said we have reached a point where developers are almost level and come next gen that will be even more so.
so how do we make our games stand out?
    say to people buy me.
the era of graphics is over, we have reached a stage where things already look so good were going to need to offer something else to entice people in.
that is what will separate the great developers from the crap ones, the imagination, creativity, the passion to drive the industry forward and constantly do things that are thought to be impossible!
sure theres still heaps we can do graphics wise, ray tracing for example.
but weve reached that point that graphics already look so good were looking for other things to take there place.
uncharted 3 for example, looks almost the same as uncharted 2 but who cares?
next gen will all be about bringing new things, new features to your games.
that will be what separates the men from the boys, what separates who has a future job and who does not.
the industrys already extremely competitive, but its about to get so much worse!

    True indeed. True comment there.

    its just not necessary!
games have come to a point where they look so good theres no need for better hardware to make them look better.
i would not be surprised if next gen is not about graphics but new features we have not seen before.
then the generation after it will switch back to being about graphics because by then we will have the tech required to do ray tracing, and finally double HD.
ray tracings the one im really looking forward to, i downloaded a demo off nvidias website that actually uses that, you can play around with all the effects, lighting position and such and see how it effects a car in a background.
car and background look so amazing, but what REALLY blew me away was the lighting effects!
NEVER have i seen a demo where you can actually look at something and see the reflection of something else.
look at the chrome vents and i could see every bit of detail of the tower behind me!
now that made my jaw drop through the floor!
    truly amazing!
