According to Splash Damage director Richard Ham, Brink, the shooter that promises to revolutionize the way we play fps titles, will not see an open beta before the game releases in May.
He explained the reason behind the decision to NowGamer, saying “[betas are incredibly important, but they also need to be run correctly.”
He continued, adding: “Until you put a game into the hands of hundreds of players, all with their own ideas and approaches to gameplay, you can never truly know everything you need to know in order to get it ‘just right’,.” he said.
So my question is why not put Brink in the hands of players, then?
He goes on: “At the same time, with some betas being used purely as marketing tools, some players treat a beta the way they would a demo, and they expect everything to be fully working and polished.”
“We certainly saw some of that during the public beta phase of our last game, Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars.
For Brink, we consciously decided to keep the beta private and put it in the hands of folks with prior beta testing experience.”

well they just lost a customer. i can’t justify buying this game with la noire coming out around the same time. it looks good, but i do not want another fps, and la noire looks different and fun.
Same feeling here. L.A. Noire’s a game I’ll definitely purchase. Brink on the other hand needed a beta to convince me. And since that’t out, then out with it.
there might be a demo though, so dont count it out yet.
i can understand where his coming from though, to base your opinion on if you should buy the game on a beta or not is just stupid!

True, but Brink at least needs a beta…. But they should have done it earlier. A demo might help….but a beta would have been better. I was on the beta of KZ3 last night, Josh and I, saw ExclusivesMostly there too.. It was something man…. MADNESS!! Sorry for the caps.
i might not get it because there is no beta. The problems with the beta do not affect my purchase, but the fun of it will. If I had fun with game and there only some problems they could fix, then i would buy it, but there is no beta and if there is no demo either, then i will not buy it. I can’t afford another game with all of the games I already know i want. It looks like a cool game, but until i really get to try it, i will pass. I just do not want another fps.
