Homefront Won’t Be The Answer For THQ Says Pachter

by Ernice Gilbert on November 4th, 2010, under Hot, News, THQ

Activison has Call of Duty, EA has Medal of Honor and Battlefield: Bad Company, but there’s another major publisher looking for a killer shooter, however the one it’s prepping won’t be the answer according Michael Pachter.

That’s what he told Industry Gamers recently, citing “stiff”, Pachter said.

“Management appears confident that Homefront can be a top-selling game within the shooter genre. We remain unconvinced, however, due to stiff competition from a number of shooters, and developer Kaos Studios’ limited track record (its last title, Frontlines, received a Metacritic score of 75),” he said.

He continued, adding the heavy reliance on Homefront by THQ could be cause of concern to investors, but added, if needs be, THQ could simply delay the game to polish it further.

“THQ’s increased dependence upon an outsized performance from Homefront entails additional risk for investors. There is always the risk that the title will not ship on time, and we think that if there are any issues with the game’s development, the company will not hesitate to delay the release, as the title is so important to THQ’s turnaround plans,” said he.

“We also think that there is some risk that the company will determine that the March quarter is an inappropriate launch window, with competitive games like Dead Space 2, Killzone 3 and Ghost Recon 4 coming out during the quarter. Should the title slip out of the quarter, THQ will generate a significantly larger loss than expected in FY:11, fully offset by profits in a later quarter when the game is ultimately released. We do not expect Homefront to slip, but caution investors to pay attention to development milestones as they become public.”

id much rather see darksiders 2 hurry up and release, was such a fun game darksiders!
the puzzles were a little on the frustratingly tedious side they need to make them larger but easier and quicker to solve, just gets annoying and boring spending a hour solving one puzzle!
need to have hints in the game so if you get stuck you dont have to turn you computer on and look up a guide.
thats one feature id really love to see on the PSN, game guides but make sure we can access them in game.
that way all i have to do is hit the ps button, scroll over to the right guide and scroll to where im up too.
instead of having to grab my laptop, wait for it to boot up, find a guide and scroll down to the point im at.
that would be a great way for sony to make some cash, take the guides sold at retail and digitize them, obviously they have to be cheaper though maybe 20 bucks each instead of 30-50 bucks each.
cant believe how expensive some of them are, i bought one for fallout 3 which cost me freaking 60 bucks!
60 bucks for a game guide?
    yup, i am insane!
