Quick Quenchers: EA’s Jeff Brown Responds To Eric Hirshberg’s Gamescom Keynote, Sounds Like A Fool

by Ernice Gilbert on August 20th, 2011, under Activision/Bilzzard, EA, FPS, Hot, News, PC, PS3, Xbox 360

“Welcome to the big leagues Eric. I know you’re new in the job but someone should have told you this is an competitive industry. You’ve got every reason to be nervous. Last year Activision had a 90 share in the shooter category. This year, Battlefield 3 is going to take you down to 60 or 70. At that rate, you’ll be out of the category in 2-3 years. If you don’t believe me, go to the store and try to buy a copy of Guitar Hero or Tony Hawk.” – Jeff Brown, EA corporate communications boss to IndustryGamers regarding Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg’s gamescom keynote.

My Opinion: Comments likes these make me feel like not supporting Battlefield 3. So childish and uncalled for.

by Ernice Gilbert on August 17th, 2011, under Activision/Bilzzard, EA, FPS, Hot, News, PC, PS3, Xbox 360

Speaking during his GamesCom keynote today, Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg pointed some strong words towards EA and its recent Call of Duty-bashing spree, like when EA CEO John Riccitiello said he’d love to see the franchise “rot from the core”, with Hirshberg calling such behavior detrimental to the gaming industry.

EA Plays Dirty, Replaces Modern Warfare 3 YouTube Search Results With Battlefield 3 Ads

If you were not paying attention, there’s a war going on between EA and Activision for what we’ll call ‘shooter supremacy’. Activision currently holds the crown with its ubiquitous Call of Duty titles that’s become the biggest piece of entertainment of all time. But EA’s not sitting idly by while the mega-publish gloat on its thrown; on the contrary, the firm’s throwing everything it has at the competitor. From damning words to tens of millions in advertising money, and now, it’s taken to YouTube search, plastering Battlefield 3 ads all over Modern Warfare 3 search results. It’s officially begun, then.

Report: EA Gets Ready For War, Plans To Release BF3 Close To Modern Warfare 3

by Ernice Gilbert on May 12th, 2011, under Activision/Bilzzard, EA, Hot, News

EA’s gone mental about this whole Battlefield 3 versus Modern Warfare 3 “battle”. The publisher has said in the past it believes the DICE-developed Battlefield 3 is a better game, with a better engine, and people simply need to know this. So, with guns ready to blaze, the publisher’s made the decision to release the aforesaid title close to Activision’s juggernaut, Modern Warfare 3.

Stop Dreaming: Battlefield 3 Won’t Take Call Of Duty’s Crown…..Anytime Soon

by Ernice Gilbert on April 19th, 2011, under Activision, Dice, EA, Opinion Piece

“We will beat Call of Duty,” uttered EA boss a while back, “our next game [Battlefield 3] is being built on the second generation of Frostbite which I think is at least in my opinion is a class act for FPS. I think we’re going to lift the game pretty dramatically in the first-person shooter category.”

Big talk from a CEO with high hopes, and now that Battlefield 3 has been revealed, trailered and detailed, we understand now where all the high talk was coming from. So EA and DICE want back the FPS crown once held by Medal Of Honor. They want the billions of dollars Activision’s been raking in from its mammoth Call of Duty franchise – but can they? Can Battlefield 3 undo four consecutive successful games in one shot, and sell more copies than Modern Warfare 3 come November?

It’s not possible, folks. Stop dreaming.

It’ll Be Hard For PS3 To Match PS2 In The Sales Department, Says Former Sony Boss

by Ernice Gilbert on November 26th, 2010, under Hot, News, Sony

The PS2 is the best selling console of all time, with more than 150 million units sold world wide life-to-date. It’s also the console with the biggest library of games, and have created many hits in its lifetime. That’s from GTA to God of War and Killzone, the system’s arguably the most profitable ever forged.

So it’s obviously a hard act to follow, especially if you’re the PS3; and Sony’s already recognized and acknowledged the fact.

by Ernice Gilbert on October 27th, 2010, under News, Nintendo

Long gone are the days when the name Sony would make all Nintendo execs faces turn into a boatload of fear. That was then, what’s now, then? No competition; at least no longer Sony and even Microsoft. For Nintendo, Apple’s the main lion in the jungle, especially when considering the astronomical rise of the iPhone and iPod touch.
