Xbox 360 Dominates September NPD Results, Sells Nearly 500,000

by Ernice Gilbert on October 14th, 2010, under Hot, Microsoft, News

Although NPD has vowed to stop releasing monthly hardware sales numbers to the public, you can expect the winning party of any given month to be more than willing to let the masses know that their console reigned supreme.

This month, Microsoft’s Xbox 360 dominated the charts, selling almost 500,000 consoles in the month of September. Big numbers, no doubt, and hence the company’s broadcast to the world.

More past the break.

According to the NPD, hardware sales were down compared to last September, and it was only the Xbox 360 realized growth, moving 483,989 units, an increase of 34 percent on a year-to-date basis. Much of this can be attributed to the release of Halo: Reach, however, as there was a special bundle made available featuring the popular game.

The PS3 and PSP did well also, with both platforms “up on an average sales per week basis as compared to last month (August 2010).”

We’ll bring you Sony’s numbers as soon as the giant makes it available, likewise Nintendo.
