PS Move Sells 1.5 Million In First Month, SCEE Looking Towards “Very Strong” Holiday Season

by Ernice Gilbert on October 14th, 2010, under Hot, News, Sony

It’s been out for just about a month, and for a market’s that many thought was already saturated with Nintendo’s motion gaming console, Wii, Sony’s PS Move is proving to be extremely popular in Europe and North America. So much so that the company might have to “accelerate production”.

That’s according to SCEE boss Andrew House, speaking to Bloomberg recently. He said the company expects to “exceed its current sales estimate of 15 million PS3 consoles moved this fiscal year” which can be credited to strong demand in the European countries and North America.

“Sales have been significantly up year-on-year in a market that has been overall slightly down,” he said.

But it was the PS Move that stunned even the execs, and according to House, it experienced “very significant sales in the first month since launch, somewhere in the region of 1.5 million units for the new controller across just Europe”.

He continued, adding, “The initial sales response has been so far in excess of our initial plan that we’ll probably be looking at accelerating production.”

Not too bad at all for the first month. And when you factor in games like Killzone 3 and others that will have Move functionality, one can only assume things will go up from here.

i didnt know ps move was gonna sell like that, good for sony. i doubt will be able to say the same thing for kinect and microsoft

Um, Ghost, Kinect will outsell Move tenfold. Not that I want it to, but it will.

Kinect will probably outsell it. MS is the best company at misleading their customers into buying their products. I really like Move and I am glad it is paying off for Sony.

personally i dont care which one outsells the other, but at the end of the day ur not gonna convince me that kinect will sell more than move. kinect is probably the stupidest peripheral ive seen lately. most of the gaming community does not want to play without a controller and thats a fact

agree with Josh on this one.

Trust me, I am not a fan of Kinect. It has some cool ideas, but it is not good for gaming. I will not be buying this ever, but it will probably sell better because it is a novelty item. No one else is making it and people will think it is cool for about 5 minutes, but by then they already spent the money.

Yeah, very true. But you know what, bro? There’s this thing called word of mouth, and if a consumer purchases Kinect, and it fails hard, said consumer will spread the not too favorable news.

impressive, considering theres really only one game really worthwhile buying it.
not to mention that game was out frigging 8 months ago!
