My goodness. In the month on December alone, Microsoft sold almost 2 million Xbox 360 units in the United States according to the NPD, completing what was the Xbox’s division biggest year thus far.
$6.2 billion was spent on Xbox 360 products during December, and according to Microsoft, Xbox 360 was the only console to show year-over-year growth of 42%, making the diehard system the fastest-growing console in 2010.
Microsoft did, however, stated what Major Nelson had said earlier, that the platform holder suffered setbacks because of supply and demand shortages, and that they could have sold even more units had it not been for the problem.
“Despite this, Microsoft still experienced out of supply situations in late December,” MS continued, “and it expects supply constraint to continue in January and February as it works with retail and manufacturing partners to expedite production and shipments to replenish the channel.”
Kinect has definitely invigorated the Xbox 360′s youthfulness, just as Microsoft predicted it would.
