Sony’s been mum concerning the long rumored PSP2, only stating it won’t “comment on rumor and speculation.” But we’ve been hearing so much talk about the new handheld that we would be surprised if it didn’t exist. Now, devs in the Netherlands are claiming they have Sony’s latest iteration of the PSP “in the house”.
This according to Mortal Kombat reboot Executive Producer Shaun Himmerick, speaking to Industry Gamers recently.
When asked about the possibility of the Mortal Kombat reboot appearing on the current PSP or upcoming 3DS, he said:
“We’re not launching day one on all consoles like that. We are looking at them; we have a PSP2 in the house and we’re looking at the engine, like what can it support. Always a big thing for us is the performance. We’re running at 60 fps, what can we do and do we have to build all the art assets over.
We’re definitely looking at them. PSP2 looks like it’s a pretty powerful machine. We don’t have a 3DS system in house yet, but we’re looking to get one, and we’ll certainly look at what its power is.”
Wow, guys, this is just crazy. You mean, Netherrealm has a PSP2 that hasn’t even been announced but not a 3DS, which, by the way, will be out late this year or early next?
Sony’s preparing bombshells, then. But if it were me, I’d be promoting the PSP2 as we speak to give it some viral legs.
But I’m not Sony, and I’m sure they have bright minds amongst them — I’m just saying…

isnt this kinda of ironic we were just talking about how nintendo was kicking sony’s ass in the portable department, then this news comes out
Haha, yep.. they just go ahead and announce it already
i smell BS.
im sure its in production, but i seriously doubt its that far in development let alone have a finalized design, let alone have units out there already!
So you think the guys’ lying?
yea, well, its hard to say.
on one hand you think why would he be lying, but on the other i seriously doubt sony has the finalized tech on the PSP2 yet.
there certainly working on it, but id say its still in prototype mode especially since the GPU their suppose to be using which is the most powerful mobile GPU is not due for release till 2012 and is WAY over power budget.
that would of set sony back quite a fair bit so id say they will probably go elsewhere, nvidia have serious power issues with their latest cards!
look at their 400 series, its slower than the equivalent ATI cards AND they use more power!
Yeah, well it’s hard to say for sure, but certainly, this guy wouldn’t make up such a lie….?
