Gamestop won’t be selling it in its stores that are stationed on military bases, some gamers plan to boycott, and an angry mom, who’s lost her son in the Afghanistan war, wishes it’d be ban. All this because Medal of Honor 2010 allows gamers in its multiplayer to play as the notorious terrorist organization known as the Taliban.
What does EA CEO John Riccitiello thinks about the mess? Well, for one, he never saw it coming, and two, he thinks that it’s the media’s fault.
Speaking at the Media, Communications & Entertainment Conference yesterday, Riccitiello said, “The controversy kind of caught me by surprise.”
He looked towards the public beta that was running for weeks and “no one noticed… until a journalist decided to put the game box in front of a mom who’d lost her son in Afghanistan to create some controversy,” he said. “I think that says more about the newspapers than it does the game industry.”
Adding: “Having said that, we’re incredibly sensitive to the challenges that a non-gamer who doesn’t really understand what I’ve just described might imagine when a journalist who also doesn’t understand a game describes it to her. It tends to excite a little bit of angst.”
To me, it’s not that of a big deal, not that we don’t have respect for the soldiers who’ve lost their lives, on the contrary, we are proud of them all, living and dead. But it’s a game, someone has to be the bad guy.
As for sales, Riccitiello’s confident the game will sell a substantial amount of copies: “We expect to significantly increase our share in FPS this year. It’s 2011 that we’ve always felt we can have a reasonable shot at recapturing the leadership. And from when we said that till 2011 that now seems possible.”

i already got my copy pre-ordered. (:

You should join the GTClan!!
I am deciding between this or COD. COD has a big strike against it since they took co-op. Also, I wants something a little different. So, I am just going to play the 2 and see which I like more. Medal of Honor is my choice right now.
I agree, we should definitely try MOH2010
Yeah, I’m wanting this, too. It looks promising
1 hes a idiot, of course theres going to be a backlash you get to play as the freaking taliban for crying out loud!
2 how can you not expect a backlash?
honestly, thats like sleeping with your bosses wife knocking her up than stealing his car trashing it, than wondering why he fires you the next day.
honestly!
“honestly, thats like sleeping with your bosses wife knocking her up than stealing his car trashing it, than wondering why he fires you the next day.” Good one.
